PHYSICAL FACILITIES

293 Second Avenue

The new Vetcision facility was designed by Dr. Huss.  Improving upon his previously designed and built veterinary specialty center, Dr. Huss made design improvments in the new facility to resolve problems that have been found in the previous hospitals computer room and delivery and storage of medical supplies, as well as, other areas.  We have changed the reception area to have dedicated phone receptionists in a separate room and client greeter receptionists at the front desk.

A green design with green materials have be utilized where practical and financially feasible.  The firm Gleysteen Design, LLC has designed the public areas (entry and reception area).  The new facility is under construction by Maggiore Construction.  The entire project is being funded by Middlesex Savings Bank with backing from the Small Business Administration.

Expectations for the building systems include 480 volt, 3 phase, 1,200 amp electric service with an emergency generator for partial building power.  Natural gas will be used for air and water heating.  Broad band fiber optic access, with redundancies, will be installed for a complex integrated IT system and VoIP phone system.  We will have a new integrated digital radiography system with a new fully integrated in-house laboratory.  Hook-ups for a mobile MRI trailer have been designed into the building.  There will be a fully addressable fire alarm system with a panic intruder alarm in the fully sprinklered building.  There will be full video monitor of the building inside and out with electronic card access for locked doors.  An oxygen generator will be used to supply all medical oxygen used in the facility along with piped in nitrogen for power surgical equipment.

As a specialty veterinary practice, there are unique needs for our patients.  Dogs and cats will be kept for short periods of time.  Typically 1-2 days for most surgery patients and 5-7 days or more for more critical patients.  Noise is not a problem with careful attention to insulation and quiet zones, nor will there be any outside cages or runs.  Some dogs refuse to go to the bathroom in a cage or run and will be walked outside one at a time in a secure area.  The secure area will be heated with radiant heat and enclosed by a fence with astro-turf for easy cleaning and sanitation.  A small area will be designated for client pets walked by their owners near the front of the building.  This area will be designed in a similar manor with astro-turf that can be cleaned and sanitized.

The new facility will be very convienient with over 45 parking places.  Vetcision will be open 24 hour a day, 7 days a week providing full service small animal specialty care.
